Antigua-Antigua and its sister island Barbuda are known for their stunning beaches. Antigua famously boasts that it has 365-one for each day of the year, it also has great reefs and wrecks for diving and snorkelling-while Barbuda has so much sand, it exports it! Antigua is the largest of the Leeward Islands, measuring 108 square miles, and is one of the easiest islands to get to with plenty of flights from the UK.

Antigua boasts a rich maritime history that survives to this day in the shape of Nelson’s dockyard in English Harbour, in the south of the island. This is the world’s only working Georgian dockyard, and the place where young Horatio Nelson was based in the 1780’s before going onto greater glory. The islands of Antigua have made conditions a magnet for yachtsmen, and thousands of them flock to the islands for the races and parties of its famous sailing week every April.

Antigua’s Capital, St John’s is a popular stop for cruise ships, and consequently offers the best shopping on the island with its heritage Quay and Radcliffe Quay centres on the restored waterfront. Barbuda is Antigua’s smaller, quieter sister which is known for its pink sand beaches, luxury hotels and one of the world’s largest nesting colonies of magnificent frigate birds. The best time to have a holiday in Antigua is during the cool dry winter months which are December-Mid April. The average daily temperatures during this period are 82°F which is why this is also the peak time to take a holiday in Antigua.
