Why couples travel differently
The best holidays we plan for couples share one characteristic: they are built around what the two of you actually want, not what a generic couples category assumes. Some couples want to do nothing for two weeks except read, swim and eat well. Some want to cover three countries and fill every day with experiences. Most want something in between, with enough structure to feel like a trip and enough flexibility to change the plan when something unexpected appears.
We ask what you have already done, what has worked before, what has not, and what you are genuinely looking forward to doing next. The itinerary that comes out of that conversation is specific to you. It is not the same trip we plan for the couple who called last week.
The combinations that work best for couples
City and beach is the most common couples combination we build. The city provides culture, restaurants, energy and the sense of being somewhere genuinely different. The beach provides the decompression. Three or four nights in a city, followed by a beach week, is the trip structure that consistently gets the most positive feedback from our couples clients.
Dubai and the Maldives is the combination our couples book most frequently. Dubai for the city drama, the restaurants and the architecture; the Maldives for the overwater villa and the silence. The contrast is the point. Both experiences are heightened by having the other one in the same trip.
Bangkok or Singapore followed by an island or beach leg works on the same principle in Southeast Asia. Bangkok is one of the most compelling city experiences in the world for couples who love food: the street markets, the riverside restaurants, the rooftop bars, the cooking classes. Koh Samui, Phuket or Bali provides the beach finale. Two weeks covers both well.
Japan is increasingly the couples destination we recommend most enthusiastically to clients who have already done the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean and want something genuinely different. Tokyo for the city experience. Kyoto for the temples and the ryokan. Hakone or the Izu Peninsula for an onsen and a view of Fuji. It is a trip that takes both of you completely out of the familiar.
Culture and adventure for couples
Couples who want more than a beach tend to tell us one of two things: they want to understand somewhere properly, or they want to push themselves physically. The cultural itinerary takes you through places with real depth: the historical core of a country, the food culture, the landscape. The adventure itinerary takes you somewhere that requires effort: a trek, a dive, an overland route.
Costa Rica is the best adventure-led couples destination in our portfolio. Active volcano landscapes, cloud forest canopy walks, white water rafting and Pacific coast surf beaches, all accessible within a two-week itinerary. It suits couples where both people want to be genuinely active rather than poolside.
Peru does the same thing with cultural depth: the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, the Amazon headwaters, and Lima, which has become one of the most interesting food cities in the world. A two-week Peru itinerary for couples who want history, landscape and serious restaurants is one of the most complete trips we build.
Practical planning for two
The logistics of couples travel are simpler than family travel but there are still decisions worth making upfront. Flight timing matters when you are paying for two long-haul business class seats. Room category matters more for a couple than a solo traveller. Private transfers rather than shared shuttles make the journey feel like part of the holiday rather than a commute.
We build in the kind of detail that makes a trip feel considered rather than assembled: a specific table at a restaurant with a view, a private morning at a site before the crowds arrive, a transfer timed so you arrive at the resort before dark. These are small things. They add up.
