Whether you are seeking soul-filled gospel or blues, foot-stomping old-time string music, or stimulating jazz and symphony, Mississippi is the one stop for your listening pleasure. And their literary, visual and performing arts are a great reason to make your way to the Magnolia State, too.

Alabama

Beauty, history and adventure all come together in Alabama, a state which sweeps down from the foothills of the Appalachians to the white-sand beaches of the Gulf Coast. Immortalised in the lyrics of the legendary song Sweet Home Alabama, it's the place where 'Muscle Shoals' still lures legendary musicians to record in 'Rock n Roll heaven' and 'live' music venues allow visitors and locals alike to enjoy everything from juke joints to jazz, blues and country. Alabama is awash in landmarks and historic sites that offer an unparalleled look at events that shaped the nation. From antebellum architecture to Native American mounds, there are stories to be told all across the state. Louisiana

There’s no doubt that The Big Easy (New Orleans) is the epicentre and finest representative of Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage. But curious travellers can delve even deeper into the fascinating Creole traditions of the region by exploring Cajun country and its unique Francophile towns.

It’s hard not to have a good time in Louisiana, and that’s largely thanks to the friendly folks who live here. Though New Orleans can be pricey for amenities like hotels in the French Quarter especially during Mardi gras or Jazz Fest, overall the state is a bargain travel destination. Food in particular is incredibly delicious, filling and cheap. Besides the rich cultural attractions Louisiana offers, the state is also a fantastic destination for outdoor recreation. Water sports like fishing and boating are highlights thanks to the abundance of water in the Gulf of Mexico as well as the lakes, rivers and swamps that cover the entire state. Golfers will also be pleased at the range and quality of Louisiana’s courses, and the balmy subtropical climate ensures that conditions are pleasant to be outside all year round.
