The Eastern Cape is an incredibly beautiful province of South Africa. Its capital is Bhisho, but its two largest cities are East London and Port Elizabeth. The Eastern Cape is the landing place and place of establishment for the settlers back in 1820. The centre and the eastern part of the province is the home of the friendly Xhosa people who are a Bantu ethnic group of Southern Africans. This stunning region is the birth ground of many of South Africa's prominent politicians, such as the legendary Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Oliver Tambo, Govan Mbeki, Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe, Raymond Mhlaba, Chris Hani, Thabo Mbeki, Steve Biko, Bantu Holomisa and Charles Coghlan.
The Climate in the eastern cape is highly varied. Port Elizabeth is known as "the windy city" but it is typically a calm and hot destination for a winter sun holiday. The west is typically a dry place with sparse rain during summer and winter, with surprisingly frosty winters and very hot summers. Further east, rainfall becomes more prevalent and the humidity notably increases, becoming more subtropical along the coast with some rainfall in summer. The interior of the province can become very cold in winter (when it's summer in the UK), with again - surprising heavy snowfalls occasionally occurring in the mountainous regions between Rhodes and Molteno.
