Venture onto the small town of Sabie in the Drakensberg escarpment for the evening. This little town owes its existence to a drunken hunting party. In 1871, a few men's fateful stray bullets struck the cliff's wall, exposing sparkles of gold beneath the rock. Today Sabie has replaced gold mining with a green gold timber industry as its chief support. The town is surrounded by over 1 million acres of Pine and Blue-gum trees that comprise of one of the world's largest man-made forests. A closed vehicle game drive will give you the opportunity to take in the park's vastness and seek out the ‘Big 5’ and other endangered and indigenous animals and plants.
