Itinerary

Day 1: Depart the UK
Catch your overnight flight from the UK to Delhi.

Day 2: Arrive Delhi
You will be met on arrival at Delhi International Airport and transferred to your hotel for a two-night stay. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the city's bustling streets or wander its wide tree-lined boulevards to get your first taste of India.

Day 3: Delhi
Embark on a full day of sightseeing beginning in Old Delhi with a visit to the stunning Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in Asia, and the Raj Ghat, a moving memorial to Mahatma Ghandi. In the afternoon, continue your tour around the highlights of New Delhi including the Qutub Minar, an astonishing victory tower built in the early 13th Century. (B)

Day 4: Delhi to Jaipur
This morning, set out for the pink city of Jaipur . The drive takes approximately five hours; the day is then yours to explore this incredible city . (B)

Day 5: Jaipur
A full day exploring the beautiful city of Jaipur. Visit the City Palace Museum, displaying a fine collection of paintings and costumes; the Jaipur Observatory; the Amber Fort, with an elephant or jeep ride along the ramparts; and the red sandstone building of Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of the Winds. (B)

Day 6: Jaipur to Agra
This morning, depart for Agra (drive time approximately eight hours) stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri. Built in the late 16th Century, the red sandstone city is beautifully preserved and is one of the best examples of Mughal architecture in India. Continue on to Agra and check in to your hotel. (B)

Day 7: Agra
After breakfast, spend the morning exploring Agra including visits to Itmad-ud-Daulah, the marble tomb sometimes called the "Baby Taj", and the Agra Fort, a hilltop citadel built of red sandstone with fabulous courtyards, fountains and gates. The last stop is the magnificent Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan and one of the world's most famous landmarks. (B)

Day 8: Agra to Khajuraho
This morning, transfer to the station for the express train to Jhansi (journey time two and a half hours). Continue by road to Khajuraho stopping en-route at the fabled town of Orcha to visit the temples and palaces which have been standing since the 16th Century. (B)

Day 9: Khajuraho to Varanasi
Your day starts with a fascinating guided tour around the Eastern and Western collection of temples that make up Khajuraho. The exquisitely carved stone temples are famous for the images of the Kama Sutra and, with 22 temples in total spread over 20 square kilometres, make a truly spectacular sight. Check out and board your early afternoon flight to Varanasi where you'll visit the Buddhist pilgrimage site at Sarnath (closed on Fridays) and the Damekh Stupa, the site that marks the spot where Buddha delivered his first sermon. Tonight, witness the "Aarti" ceremony on the ghats, the steps leading down to India's holy river, the Ganges. (B)

Day 10: Varanasi
An early morning boat trip along the River Ganges allows you to observe the morning rituals of Hindus along the ghats as they make offerings to the first rays of the rising sun. Visit the sacred shrine of Kashi- Vishwanath (also known as the Golden Temple), and Bharat Mata Mandir, a simple temple dedicated to 'Mother India'. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B)

Day 11: Varanasi to Delhi
A leisure morning precedes the early afternoon flight back to Delhi where you transfer to your hotel for some more free time in the city. (B)

Day 12: Depart Delhi for the UK
After breakfast, you will be picked up and taken to the airport for your return flight home. (B)
