In Nova Scotia, fresh and local isn't a choice. It’s a way of life. Nova Scotia was built on a connection to the sea and it's understanding of the land has allowed the rich culture to thrive. From award winning craft breweries, distilleries, cideries and vineyards & wineries, to feasts made from the finest local ingredients – there’s plenty here to whet your appetite. With so many incredible culinary delights to choose from, it's no surprise Nova Scotia is so well known for it's kitchen parties.
FREE - Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site
On Cape Breton’s rocky shoreline east of Sydney, Nova Scotia, the Fortress of Louisbourg brings you back to French colonial life between 1713 and 1758. Louisbourg was a major fishing centre and cosmopolitan town situated on the trade routes between North America and Europe. This place was first the home of the Mi'kmaw people. In the 18th century, they were joined by the French alongside Basque, German, English, Irish, Scottish and African people. Today, this one-quarter reconstruction of the original French town and fortifications is the largest – and best – of its kind in North America, offering a wealth of experiences for visitors to enjoy.
