After your 3 night stay in Cape Town you will board The Rovos Rail and embark on the most luxurious train in the world from Cape Town to Pretoria.
You will arrive into Pretoria 2 days later and you have an overnight at the Southern Sun Pretoria before boarding the rovos rail for your 3 night journey to Victoria falls. When you arrive you will be transferred to your hotel for a further 3 nights before flying back home.
Day by Day
Day 1 London – Cape Town
Fly overnight from London to Cape Town.
Day 2 Cape Town
Once you arrive you will be transferred to your hotel where the rest of your day is for you to relax and unwind after your long flight.
Day 3 - 4 Cape Town
Your time in Cape Town is free for you to explore this magnificent city. Get to the top of Table Mountain, go whale watching or even Shark Cage diving for those of you who are brave enough, visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years and take in all the amazing things to do around the Victoria & Albert Waterfront or Camps Bay. Day 5 Cape Town to Pretoria – Rovos Rail
Today you will embark on a journey on the Rovos Rail, the most Luxurious train in the world!
The train departs from Platform 23 Cape Town Station. Guests may freshen up in their suites before joining other guests in the midway Lounge car or the Observation carriage at the rear of the train. 13h00: Lunch will be served in the dining car/s. 15h00: We pass through Worcester on the way to the village of Matjiesfontein. At 15h30 we reach the first of four tunnels which take us through the Hex River Pass. The third tunnel is 13.5kms long so please be careful if you are walking through the train. If you are in your suite you may wish to turn on a light. 17h45: Guests may disembark at Matjiesfontein for a stroll through this quaint and historic little village. Of special interest is the museum on the platform and a collection of historic cars and railway carriages to the right of the Hotel. (For refreshments we recommend the pub in the Lord Milner Hotel). 19h00: We depart atjiesfontein.19h30 Dinner will be served in the dining car/s.
Day 6
Sunday/Tuesday 07h30: Breakfast will be served in the dining car until 10h00. 12h00: Lunch is served in the dining car/s. 14h30: The train arrives in Kimberley. Here we disembark and proceed by coach/combi for a tour of the city, the “ Big Hole ” and the Mine Museum. 16h00: Rejoin the train at Kimberley station.16h10 Ten minutes after departing Kimberley there is a shallow lake on the left hand side facing forward. On most occasions there are spectacular flocks of Flamingos (approx. 23 000). 19h30: Dinner will be served in the dining car/s as we pass through Bloemhof and Leeudoringstad en route to Klerksdorp. Monday/Wednesday
Day 7 arrive in Pretoria
07h00: Breakfast will be served in the dining car/s until 10h00. The train continues the journey towards Pretoria passing through Krugersdorp, Johannesburg and Germiston. 10h45: We arrive at Centurion where one or two of our Rovos locomotives will collect us for the final leg of our journey. 12h00: Arrive Rovos Rail Station in Capital Park, Pretoria
Once you have disembarked the train make your way to your overnight hotel in Pretoria for a night at your own leisue.
Day 8 Depart Pretoria
09h30: The train departs Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. 13h00: Lunch is served in the dining car/s as the train travels through the goldfields of Johannesburg. 19h30: Dinner is served as the train travels to Mafikeng for Botswana border formalities and overnight.
Day 9
07h00: Breakfast is served as the train travels north through Botswana’s capital city, Gaborone. 13h00: Lunch is served as the train traverses Botswana. 16h30: Tea in the lounge and observation cars. 19h30: Dinner en route to Plumtree for Zimbabwe border formalities. Overnight stop at Mpopoma.
Day 10
07h00: Breakfast is served. The train departs Mpopoma. 13h00: Lunch is served. Travel along the eastern edge of Hwange Park along one of Africa’s longest stretches of straight railway line – 114km. 15h00: Arrive Kennedy for a game drive at The Hide. 19h00: Dinner is served in the dining car/s en route to Thompsons Junction for the overnight stop.
Day 11 Victoria Falls
07h00: Depart Thompsons. Breakfast until 09h30. 10h00: Arrive at journey’s end in Victoria Falls and transfer to your Victoria Falls accommodation for the last 3 nights of your holiday. When you arrive spend the evening at leisure.
Day 12-13 A’Zambezi River Lodge
