An epic country demands equally epic rail journeys, and Australia does not disappoint, offering a unique landscape and some of the finest rail routes anywhere. The great trans-continental Indian Pacific is a dream for rail enthusiasts, romantics and adventurers.
Your epic journey will take you through the picturesque and fertile Avon Valley, the dusty goldfields around Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, across the vast, empty and ancient desert of the Nullarbor Plains, and the magnificent and once-impenetrable Blue Mountains outside Sydney.
There is time to explore the heritage and culture of Broken Hill, the ‘silver city’, which was built on mining riches, and the elegant South Australian capital, Adelaide, which offers an abundance of food, wine and history.
