Chiang Mai
The ‘culture capital’ of Thailand is the ancient city of Chiang Mai famous for sightseeing, trekking, adventure, shopping, spas and mountain resorts. The people of Northern Thailand pride themselves on their warm hospitality and unique culture. When you travel to Chiang Mai expect to see hotel staff wearing traditional costume, and stay in rooms decorated in classic Lanna styles from centuries ago. There is a casual atmosphere in the city bars and some of the best value dining in Thailand can be found in Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai has become a Thailand favorite, mainly because it oozes culture and history with its pretty moat, crumbling bastions and ruined pagodas at every turn. Staying among the old town lanes offers an authentic taste of provincial Thailand, with centuries-old temples, bustling street markets and cosy guesthouses and coffee shops on every corner. Then there’s the adventure trips to mountain national parks and waterfalls nearby, trekking, elephant riding, family attractions and more. Shopping is another notable advantage in Chiang Mai, along with very affordable hotels and restaurants.
Elephant Jungle Trek & River Rafting
This tour takes you to the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp, situated in a picturesque setting on the banks of the Ping River. Here you can watch these amazing creatures taking their daily bath and demonstrating remarkable feats of strength and skill. You then join a 90-minute uphill elephant trek to a remote Lisu hill tribe village. The Lisu Hill Tribe people originated in Tibet and their villages are usually located in the mountains around 3280 feet and this thrilling ride takes you along the river and then past beautiful forest scenery of bamboo trees and hanging creepers. At the end of the ride, enjoy a traditional lunch, before boarding a bamboo raft for a relaxing hour-long adventure down the River Ping. Your day long adventure finishes with a visit to an Orchid Farm at Mae Sa where there is ample time to stroll around this scenic area.
