USS Pampanito is a WWII submarine museum and memorial that is open to visitors seven days a week and located at Fisherman’s Wharf. This historic submarine made six patrols in the Pacific during WWII when she sank six Japanese ships and damaged many others. The museum is managed by the Maritime Park Association and attracts over 110,000 visitors each year. The Pampanito is being restored to a specific point in history, summer 1945, which is to represent the height of WWII submarine development. Nearly all the missing equipment has now been replaced due to the Maritime Park Association scouring the country in search of the required parts.
