At the corner of 5th Avenue and 34th Street is the empire state building, New York’s most celebrated skyscraper, its fame enhanced by its role in the film ‘king Kong’. It is particularly striking at night when it’s lit up. Built of limestone and granite in 1932, this 1250ft high tower (1475 with the areal) was for many years the world tallest building.
