Since its early days, waves of immigration have shaped New York into a multi-ethnic city. When to go? The New York winter can be severe, with heavy snow, biting wind and sub-freezing temperatures from December to February. It can also be a bit of an ordeal getting around during these months due to the amount of visitors to the city. Spring is unpredictable –even in April, snow showers can alternate with ‘shirtsleeves’ temperatures. But the worst of the winter is over by mid march. Outdoor events start in May. July and August are extremely hot and humid, driving many new Yorkers to leave the city. However during the time queues are shorter, restaurant reservations are optional, outdoor festivals at their peak, and the city seems rather exotic. Autumn is generally thought to be the best time to visit. Warm temperatures persist into October with humidity dropping off in September.
