Marmaris, approximately 90km from Dalaman airport, is one of Turkey’s most cosmopolitan resorts and rivals Kusadasi as the major tourist resort on the West Coast. Marmaris has a feel of the French Riviera or Miami’s Ocean Drive with its busy main drag, palm tree promenade and elegant marinas that are surrounded by bars, Restaurants and chic boutiques. Although the difference here is that you don’t have to pay the extravagant prices found those other resorts. Marmaris can lay claim to over 2000 eateries and bars so it is more than capable of catering for any individual taste and budget.
Icmeler can be described as an all-rounder with a touch of class! This popular resort with UK holidaymakers, especially families, has many pedestrian streets, beautiful gardens and an array of restaurants, bars and shops. Icmeler has a great beach that offers a variety of water-sports as well as a diving school. There is also a lively and colourful market on most Wednesdays in the old village that is well worth a visit. If you want a day out shopping then Marmaris is only 10km’s away and is easy to reach by dolmus or water taxi.
Olu Deniz has one of the most spectacular beaches which is also one of the most photographed beaches in the Med’, the sand bar at the mouth of Olu Deniz is just awesome. Olu Deniz has grown in to a smart resort village that caters for sun-worshippers with many restaurants and a variety of shops and boutiques. This area is still a protected national park and as such it has been spared the mass over-development of some resorts and this is much to its benefit. Although more than just a beach, Olu Deniz is a must for beach lovers looking to get that all important tan.
Dalyan is a resort that has been established in an environmentally protected area. The discovery of the endangered loggerhead turtles led to a campaign to designate the area for conservation which has led to the village resort keeping is natural charm and beauty. That said, Dalyan has more than enough to offer visitors with many restaurants, serving great local Turkish cuisine, bars and shops and you can also find a couple of discos on the outskirts of the village. There is also a regular dolmus (minibus) service that runs to several neighbouring resorts and villages such as Fethiye and Marmaris. Dalyan is a fairly unique destination that is full of culture, charm, history and bountiful natural beauty that will probably leave wanting to return for more.
