Due to Cape Town’s geographical location and the whole province of the Western Cape the climate resembles that of the Mediterranean with very warm summers with little rain and winters where pleasant sunny days are quite frequent. With the good weather that area of South Africa enjoys it makes holidays to Cape Town perfect for those who like the outdoor life.
Table Mountain is what Cape Town is famous for and what a view from the top! The best way to enjoy the views is to take a fairly quick cable ride but for those who are really fit and enjoy a challenge you can tackle one of the 350 steep paths that lead to the summit. Once there you will not be disappointed as you get panoramic views of the city and the coast around the Western Cape. Be sure to check the weather before you go as you don’t want to get all the way to the top only to find you can’t see a thing due to clouds. Robben Island and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront are also popular things to go and see whilst in Cape Town. Robben Island is now a UNESCO world heritage site and is where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for all those years. You can take a boat across to the island for a guided tour by former political prisoners and see what they had to endure. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is one of Cape Town’s liveliest districts with great shops, trendy cafes and first-class dining.
Cape Town has some magnificent sandy beaches that stretch along the Atlantic seaboard with spectacular coastal roads – Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno are just some of the best and most popular ones to visit. Some of the beaches with warmer waters include Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, St James and Strand.
Moving away from Cape Town itself there are some fabulous places to explore that are well worth taking the time to do so. South Africa is known for producing quality wines, which most of us has sampled from time to time, and with the wine regions of Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch close by, visiting a few of the wine estates makes for a great day out. Also within day-tripping distance is the charming holiday resort of Hermanus, which was once a small fishing village and is now the whale-watching capital of South Africa. Another place perfect for exploring by car is the world-famous Garden Route with spectacular beaches, great adventure and wonderful countryside to explore.
Cape Town is one of those destinations that people instantly fall in love with due to the fantastic climate amazing scenery and the sense of adventure that leaves wanting to go back time and time again.
