Tourists from the UK have been travelling to the Algarve since the mid 60’s and it is now one of the most popular short haul holidays destinations for young families, couples and individuals of all ages. The Algarve boasts everything from five-star resorts and hotels, guesthouses and villas and apartments. The excellent child-friendly hotel infrastructure gives parents and children alike the chance to relax and enjoy their Algarve holiday.
The Algarve is a favourite destination for those looking to do more than just relax on the beach. There are over 35 golf courses that cater for all skill levels and some have hosted major European tour events. The Algarve is also perfect for water-sports including surfing, windsurfing, water-skiing and kitesurfing. Deep sea fishing and yacht chartering are also very popular. If you are interested in a bit of culture then the many festivals and celebrations are well worth seeing including the modern day beer festival in Silves or the sardine festival on Portimāo. The Algarve’s charming villages, such as Alvor and Montegordo, are perfect places to sample some of the local cuisine, from freshly caught sardines to barbecued tuna steaks.
The Algarve has many different towns and villages to choose from when deciding where to stay. Some of the more popular choices for holiday-makers include; Vilamoura, which boasts a huge new marina with berthing for over 600 vessels and lies in the heart of golfing country as well as lovely beaches and impressive cliff top walks and various water-sports. Albufeira is sometimes known as the tourist capital of the Algarve with 23 beaches and great nightlife with bars restaurants and nightclubs. Carvoeiro, once a small fishing village, is popular for its beaches and town centre that has an array of restaurants and bars.
The Algarve has a god variety of shopping facilities but it is the markets that are best if you are hunting for those bargains and souvenirs. Most towns and villages have their own Markets but two that we would recommend are Quarteira on a Wednesday which has everything. This is near to Vilamoura and is a shopper’s heaven selling souvenirs, shoes, bags, watches and fakes designer goods. Loule is the other market that is well worth a visit as well as nice place to have a spot a lunch after hunting for those bargains.
The Algarve is a great destination and offers something for everyone with its variety of hotels, beaches and activities, so why not let The Internet Traveller find your perfect holiday in the Algarve at great prices.
