Sacre Coeur

Situated in the Montmartre area of the city, the grand Basilique de Sacre Coeur overlooks picture-perfect squares, steps and tree-lined streets. The main aim of the project was to erect a Byzantine style Basilica, true to Christian tradition. It was designed by architect Paul Abadie. The first stone was laid in 1875, but unfortunately Abadie passed away in 1884, with only the foundation part completed. The construction was later completed in 1914 but was not consecrated until 1919, till the end of First World War. The steps outside the Sacre Coeur are an excellent spot from which to view Paris.
