Cuba is an archipelago of islands located in the northern Caribbean Sea where the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean meet. The United States lies to the north-west, the Bahamas to the north, Haiti to the east, Jamaica to the south and Mexico to the west.
Cuba is the principal island, surrounded by four smaller groups of islands: the Colorados, the Sabana-Camagüey , the Jardines de la Reina and the Canarreos Archipelago. The main island is 766 km long, constituting most of the nation’s land area (110,861 km2) and is the sixteenth-largest island in the world by land area.
Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the country’s capital. It is home to over 11 million people making this the most populated nation in the Caribbean. The official language is Spanish.
