The village of La Oliva was the political centre of Fuerteventura from the early 17th to mid 19th century, with some of the buildings still standing today. In the centre of town is the main church, this pretty little church has a square bell tower which can be seen from miles. The grandest part of the town and the main tourist attraction is the townhouse the Casa de los Coroneles (house of colonels), this is where the military governors of the island used to reside. Situated just between the church and the Casa de los Coroneles is the ‘Casa Mane’ art centre here you can view work from well known Canarian artists.
